My second post...and it only took a week! I can already tell that
this site is going to be neglected and posts will be few and far
between. My sincere apologies to those of you who were actually
looking forward to reading gibberish and drivel. Maybe I'll set
up an email address for story sumissions...one of these days.
Meanwhile, nothing new in the ongoing financial saga that is my
life, although I did come up with the following ditty which I'll
probably end up singing to myself incessantly...the way a homeless
person mutters unintelligible phrases to nobody in particular.
O give me a home
With adjustable loan
And affordable interest to pay
Where five years from now
Rates adjust up somehow
And the bank takes my house away

Welcome to Damaged...home to some random thoughts from a random
mind.
Today's topic: Where will I live after the bank takes my home???
Where, indeed. Assuming that the bullet train to Bankruptcy doesn't
stop at Salvation Street, I'm looking at a few options. Thankfully,
I live near lovely Santa Monica, CA. Santa Monica seems to welcome
the homeless with open arms. I still have the big cardboard box
that my Dell computer shipped in...mighty fine cardboard, and roomy,
too! Who needs anything more? Live in a spacious cardboard box on
the beach in Santa Monica and hit Third Street Promenade with cup
in hand to harrass locals and tourists alike into tossing me some
change.
Of course, having a roof overhead that won't melt in the first rainstorm
would be a bonus. I've looked far and wide for a suitable location
in sunny Southern California that might fit my budget of next-to-nothing
and one town seems to stand out from the crowd: Trona.
Trona is a disaster of a town...but the real estate is about as
cheap as it gets in So Cal. Maybe it has something to do with the
fact that it's a declining minerals mining town...or that the stench
of sulphur hangs heavy in the air...or that one in three homes has
been burned to the ground by vandals or insurance cheats. Whatever
the reason, only someone damaged in the head would want to live
there...sounds ideal to me.
Here are a few of the lovely homes that we saw on our last visit
to this booming future ghost town.....

How much would one pay for any of these gorgeous estate homes? Before
the run up in real estate, any one of these fine properties could
have been purchased for less than $10,000...and, with the direction
home prices are headed, under $10,000 might be possible once again.
I figure a few months of vigorous cup shaking will earn enough loose
change to shoehorn my way into one of these beauties! Trona...I'm
coming home!!! |
